i'm oversimplifying, but her critique is fundamentally this:automated processes break down. so they require monitoring systems to detect breakdowns. if you automate the monitoring system, that can break down too. essentially you can never fully resolve the monitoring problem - you can only add a new layer of abstraction to it.monitoring automated systems requires focused attention and low activity - humans are absolutely TERRIBLE at this, because we get bored! and the more abstract the automation processes get, the more complicated it is to determine what went wrong when a breakdown occurs, or if a breakdown even occurred
