New cars might be helping sell you out for ad targeting.

@piggo I see how the more expensive version of their vehicles include GPS tracking and 4G LTE features (as subscriber services), but what I wonder is if it’s only those models with the telemetry and data sharing

@Tanuki I wouldn't be surprised if they all snooped, so long as there's any way to uplink. Without GPS data I wouldn't mind it, but that just feels very invasive right?

@Tanuki @piggo A lot of stuff now has smartphone companion apps... now I'm curious if the Entune app for Toyota is doing any of that.

@bhtooefr @Tanuki that seems like a given, everyone is super horny for analytics, every single-page website with just a few lines of text has a tracker on it. Maybe you could try capturing network traffic and see what's going on

On Honda's privacy policy, they say that the data from the "black box" (Event Data Recorder) cannot be read without physical access, so the EDR is not the source of this data sharing. https://www.honda.com/-/media/Honda-Homepage/PDF/American_Honda_Motor_Vehicle_Technology_Data_Privacy.pdf

@Tanuki What a privacy policy says and what a company does are two completely separate things and should in no way be confused together.
