pls someone explain why #IRC with NickServ or some equivalent still needs a fricking bouncer if I want to log in from multiple computers???????(and if they want everyone to use IRC, how they are gonna solve that.)

@grainloom because IRC doesn't have the notion of "registered accounts". every handle represents a single connection. people used to value anonymity and ephemerality online

@grainloom I think it's just that the internals are still very connection oriented. There's no real concept of a "user" as distinct from a client connection, other than for authentication. The fact that it still uses NickServ is a good example of the problem.

@tso sure, but why couldn't it merge two? send a request from one connection to the other and if that approves, they get merged...

@kragen @tso yeah, but they could get on developing it maybe.... not everyone wants to / can set up a bouncer

@grainloom @tso maybe we could prototype some other distributed or even decentralized chat systems and see if we can put together something that works better. like maybe SSB?

@Jameshjacksonjr oh. the site didn't mention that. which is still bad imho.> The app wraps the IRCCloud website in a native window.yeah. still pass. just slightly less harder.
