I found a refrigerator box around my desk one morning. She told me the class voted that they didn’t want to look at me. I was humiliated daily and I had no friends. I told my parents. They didn’t believe me. I failed. She came to my class the next year and told everyone that they’d better work hard or they’d fail like me.

A child’s word counted for nothing. I struggled through school and barely got my diploma. I let that woman beat me for a long time. When maturity set in, I went to college and had a 4.0 average. I have a degree in paramedic care. My saviors were my children.

I love my parents and I know they mean well but the term I use for their "parenting" is: inadequate. Inadequate parenting causes huge problems for kids, for life. I am proud of you for surviving and thriving, which is a choice available to us an adult. Kudos to you.

I watched sibling after sibling replicate the same family dynamic.I couldn't do that to children, so I refrained from having them.It was the right decision.

@CyndiRocks1I had a fifth grade teacher that sent me to the chalkboard to do a math problem. I didn't understand it. She turned red in the face and was slapping a ruler against her neck while she was screaming at me . I went home in tears. Next day when I went to school she was gone. My dad had gone to school and I guess they gave her the choice to go get some help or lose her job. I told em we had 4 kids coming in and had to ask them to clean him up..needless to say after 3 of them saw him the 4th flew in later. They had taken him down to the morgue. So she didnt get to see her dad. All because they were lazy.. I was pussed. So I stood in the hall and cussed for @ 5 min..

My only friend was an Asian kid. My younger sister experienced the same thing. The postmodernist belief, popular in academia currently, that African-Americans cannot be racist and that Whites cannot be victims of racism, does not conform with my experience.

One Friday afternoon, after school, I took my father’s shotgun, loaded it and set it beside me on my bed. Face to face with suicide. There was NO OTHER WAY to endure the mental and emotional torture. So when I was born, that was the only way I knew him. Although it wasn't always easy, I reasoned that if I had had his experience, I might very well anesthetize my brain also. Like many other men of his generation, he simply would not discuss the war. Thankfully I cannot imagine the horrors that many vets have endured.

He was wicked to most of the class. He'd walk around balancing a baseball bat on his finger act like it was going to hit you the head. Once the room was full of gnats and he sprayed me with bug spray in front of everybody. He said I must have brought the bugs in.

Once I didn't have a sketch book for art class I had to sit during the art session with my head on my desk and you were not allowed to look up during that whole time. He was only there for 1 yr. but it was enough to scar a lot of kids.

But, someone stole the small gray bag with his personal belongings that I had been given from the ER room that his body was in. Did it when I went to the restroom. I told the nurses, but they said it happened a lot. Hospital was in a border town. The bag was never recovered.

When he got there, he asked the duty nurse where he was, and she flatly responded that he'd already been taken to the funeral home. My dad was no wallflower, so I imagine he had some choice words, but he never repeated them to me.
