       @Taweret what do you call it when you only understand a Star Trek meme because of other Star Trek memes? I was not aware of that metaphor thing until minutes ago and it feels weird to get this joke without having seen any substantial amount of Star Trek media.

       @grainloom @Taweret I'm sure there is a formal name for it that is used by Anthropologists and Sociologists in their research.But yeah, if something is very popular in a culture it eventually becomes part of the ambient culture as a whole meaning that you absorb bits and pieces of it even if you don't participate in it.  Like I pretty much knew every major scene in The Godfather before I saw the movie because of all the references, satire, and homages to it that I saw growing up.
