@lynnesbian @BestGirlGrace The package is just enough to bootstrap steam creating a data store in your home directory. It contains a copy of all its own libraries and a full comparability stack so it can work across distributions (There's a steam overlay for Gentoo too). If you have multiple people on your box, they all give a full copy of that in their home directory. That's just the way Steam decided to implement things and avoid dealing with the package manager for updates.
