@alextee I knew DDG was US-based but I didn't realise it was proprietary. I may stop recommending it to people.I use searx as well. I run my own instance and proxy all the results.https://searx.nixnet.xyz/

@amolith@alexteeThat may be true but equating ddg with google is pretty unfair.

@kelbot @alextee I'm not equating them by farrrrrr. DDG is *infinitely* better than Google. I just assumed it was an open source project so it puts a bit of a damper on my enthusiasm to find that it's proprietary.

@amolith@alexteeI get it. Same here. Would like for them to be and they do donate to a lot of foss projects and their mobile apps are open source. I suspect that they can't be open source for the search engine because I think they use someone elses engine for the actual results.

@Qwant I use lite.qwant.com evryday. Are your servers based in europe? Do you have a filter for search results that only show open source or creative common within results? Are your servers open source? Do you plan #federated servers like #searx or #yacy https://yacy.snopyta.org/ do? @kelbot @amolith @alextee
