In his seminal study of the body, Corpus (1992), Jean-Luc Nancy writes that:"The body, the skin: everything else is anatomical, physiological, and medical literature. But the truth is skin. It is in the skin, it acts as skin: authentic exposed expanse, entirely turned to the outside just as it is the envelope of the inside""the truth is skin": there is something of the skin that cuts through attempts to portion the body off into scientific classifications.

Hence Nancy's untranslatable neologism: Expeausition, from the French words "exposition" and "peau" (skin). Nancy's project of writing as "the touching of sense" is closely entangled with his concept of expeausition. In the section on expeausition, he writes:"The apart-from-self as a departure, this is what is exposed.""The body is the departure of self, to self."There is a dialectic of expeausition.

As is typical of Nancy, the dialectic is already written before it is discussed. "Expeausition": ex-skin-position: the already-elsewhere-ness of skin. Skin is touch, and touch is the movement outwards. This brings us to our primary text, by Mads "Legend" Viande:"fellas is it gay to have skin? because every square inch of me cries out to be touched and I can't bear it I can't bear it I can't bear it, touch me bro"

By bringing these two texts together, it quickly becomes apparent that, yes, it is gay to have skin. Despite the shockingly cisheteronormative conclusions Nancy reaches in his work, Corpus opens itself up to a very straightforward queer reading of expeausition.Because we must all have skin, we are all expeaused, that is to say, we share in a condition of moving-towards-the-touch expressed so eloquently by Viande in her text.

Viande's post expresses every aspect of expeausition: the movement-towards ("to be touched"), the ex-location of skin which makes immobility and touchlessness unbearable ("I can't bear it"), and the intersubjective mediated by expeausition ("touch me bro").Despite Nancy's attempt to integrate his theory within a cisheterosexist framework, expeausition is exposed as an inherently queer concept, one which is naturally integrated into the queer imagination.

Our shared expeaused condition cuts through attempts to legislate touch and the desire to touch, so that even the homomisic sentiment expressed by the speaker of Viande's text is undone by the irresistible desire inscribed in the speaker's skin.It is gay to have skin.

i have mixed feelings about this thread because going off on one about somebody's shitpost is a cool thing i should do more often, and in retrospect the queer reading of expeausition and Corpus as a whole is a genuinely great idea, but i dont think i focus on the right things at all in the thread itself, mostly because im trying to play it off as a joke

not even joking i could turn this exact queer reading of Corpus into my thesis and it would absolutely kill
