       It's not clear to me how Bajoran Light Ships work. OK, they use solar wind to move. But how do they get off the ground and into orbit in the first place? #StarTrek

       @Ricardus Build 'em in space?

       @sparcipx But if their propulsion is solar wind, how is ANYTHING getting into orbit?

       @Ricardus Perhaps their lift vehicles are fueled?

       @sparcipx Then why use Light Ships at all?

       @Ricardus you know how you can tack into the wind? Like that, but lame

       @Ricardus I admit my ignorance of the source material (and engineering in general), my best guess would be it was the most efficient propulsion system they could come up with?

       @sparcipx Sure. But it can't get into orbit! 🙂

       @sparcipx It was never explicitly said they didn't have chemical or liquid rockets when they were flying the light ships, but it sure was implied.

       @Ricardus If it's built in space, it doesn't need anything else. Of course, if any parts are built planetside, they'd need alternate means of propulsion to get the goods to space for assembly.

       @sparcipx But without real propulsion no one, or no thing is GETTING into space. This whole light ship thing is a giant glitch. Get me someone in charge!

       @RicardusKudos! Can't wait to hear recordings using them. Will inform f-i-l this coming Sunday when we visit.

       @tim Cool. My next build will be a pair of 1176 clones, and then a U47 clone.

       @sparcipx Oh, I was thinking maybe Bajorans didn't have lift vehicles, but maybe they were able to build a space elevator or something similar.
