@Paneb @lynnesbian Yet again, it's stupid to think that people mean "voluntary exchange" by "capitalism".

@dtluna @Paneb @lynnesbian love too wake up every morning and voluntarily exchange my labor with the few people who for no particular reason control all the resources I need to survive

@veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb I agree, there's a lot of unjust privelege around. I'm not gonna engage in vulgar libertarianism and defend that shit.

@veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb @dtluna @orekix this really gets to me... the idea that such transactions take place outside of a massive context; the transaction is merely a symptom. "do x and I'll give you money" expresses several concepts: that labour can be bought and sold, that there is in this society a generalised commodity production, that labour can be abstracted away from any concrete aspect such as to become only abstract labour, and this problem gets worse when we realise that one of the participants in this "voluntary exchange" owns major productive capacity and the power to separate the worker from the capacity and the products made with the capacity. "muh voluntary exchange" comes from taking things at face value (focusing on appearance) rather than looking at what they imply (going into essence).

@dtluna @veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb @orekix no, probably not, but a society in which I am forced to mow lawns in order to survive might be.

@qtd3n @veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb @orekix "An abstraction and circumstance" is not a person.Blaming it would be something like blaming your need for oxygen for forcing you to breathe.

@dtluna @veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb @orekix I know it's not a person, it's an abstraction. You display a lack of the ability to think abstractly, that is, in terms of structures rather than concrete instances of people and groups. This ability can be learned, however. Your point would be more valid if we didn't always need oxygen to live, if there were alternatives to oxygen that are healthier, and if we don't need oxygen in future with the way things are going.

@qtd3n @veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb @orekix Abstraction cannot act. It's an abstraction, not a person. Only people act and only people can force you.

@dtluna @veryonlinedad @lynnesbian @Paneb @orekix Do you not agree that the human condition (an immutable abstraction) forces us into a particular mode of being, ways of thinking, etc. through its constraints? This is an example of an abstraction that forces us. Does capital not work through Smith's invisible hand, another abstraction, mediated by individuals? Isn't Hegel's world spirit mediated by individuals, too?

@qtd3n I disagree. Abstractions do not force us. Abstractions are just constructs of mind, not acting individuals. Only individuals force us.If you choose to say that abtstractions can force us and that's why it's unjust, then I suggest you protest the abstraction of the law of gravity that forces us operate under it.

@dtluna An individual is also just an abstraction, humanity in general is an abstraction, even the market is an abstraction. I don't think capitalism is unjust, since that would mean I need to advance my own idea of justice, but I don't have any objective ground for that. I think it's worth protesting abstractions we find objectionable when we realise they are not immutable and life doesn't have to be that way. Btw we've interacted before, I used to be "ue" on the Bunkerchan.xyz instance hah.

@qtd3n should people be forced into your communal arrangement or do you simply hope that happens?
