@mexpat @lain I live in a state that praises its rampant alcoholism and has an insane amount of drinking and driving. I drank socially for 10 years and do not wish to do so anymore. Yes, even I have driven under the influence many times before. There is no reliable public transportation in our small cities and communities (even 250k+ population) and so it is considered normal... unless you're so drunk you kill someone. Oh, then it's bad! But drink several beers at a party or pub and drive home? You're OK, right? Drive safe! (.08 should not be the law; .00 needs to be the law)It is without question the most destructive drug in the world. The NHS touted this years ago; the WHO is getting really nervous about trends over the last decade. They also classified it as a class 1 carcinogen decades ago. Nobody listened.I was at the point where I began to have a physical reaction to even a single beer and it just wasn't worth it anymore. There were no longer any benefits; it wasn't enjoyable anymore even in the moment. It was purely social pressures that made me drink. There is also a huge lobbying effort to suppress all research into the effects of alcohol. The Trump administration shut down a CDC study. However we do know some new information: alcohol causes breast tissue in women to divide at higher than the normal rate due to it boosting estrogen levels. This combined with the huge increase in women drinking being socially acceptable in Western society over the last few decades may be the link to the massive increases in breast cancer.Me? I'll have my THC, never be severely impaired, and always wake up refreshed and especially have no IBS-like side effects. My life and career has significantly improved over the last two years and I firmly believe it's due to my abstaining from any alcohol.https://opmed.doximity.com/articles/there-s-an-alcohol-epidemic-and-we-aren-t-paying-enough-attention-07489a24-9fb5-42e4-a64f-8792f0a8774dhttp://www.who.int/news-room/detail/21-09-2018-harmful-use-of-alcohol-kills-more-than-3-million-people-each-year--most-of-them-menhttps://www.theguardian.com/society/2010/nov/01/alcohol-more-harmful-than-heroin-crackhttps://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/04/did-drinking-give-me-breast-cancer/

@mexpat @lain I promise if you step back and look at the alcohol industry through a critical lens you'll be shocked at how it is casually advertised EVERYWHERE and they have carefully ensured the terminology is "alcohol and drugs" to separate itself in the psyche. Why is there alcohol in the office? Why is there alcohol at the cafe/bakery here? (Beer on tap, whisky by the dram too!)Why is there alcohol at gas stations? Why is every other billboard alcohol related?

@alphakamp @mexpat @lain me too, but on the ballot Tuesday is legalization in my county. (Did you know they can legalize by county? They can! And that's how they're approaching it in my state because it's easier to turn the state this way)On my ballot Tuesday for this county, but also on the ballot for several others:Should marijuana be legalized, taxed and regulated in the same manner as alcohol for adults 21 years of age or older?

@alphakamp @mexpat @lain no point in arresting if the local DA won't prosecute. And there is no state equivalent to the DEA... seems like it can work.
