Somehow the Fediverse attracts a certain type of crazy people. Things I have heard just today: Open Source conferences that get sponsorships from company are evil, but it is fine using Open Source software developed by companies (“because I use it” l, I guess) and “CAPTCHAs are evil, bots should just be allowed to spam until there’s no tomorrow”. Why is it that Fediverse attracts these crazy people? Makes me almost want to go back to Twitter, they are less prominent there.

@js Why don't just move to where you are happy?

@js I think about moving back to Flickr and paying them 49.99 USD per year too. 😅

@gsora It doesn't make sense. Sponsoring an open source conference: "Boycot that conference! It's evil!". Responding "The same company is sponsoring Linux. You are boycotting that as well if you call for boycotting that open source conference that is done entirely by volunteers that you just badmouthed, right? Right?". Obviously they're not and are being a hypocrite.

@veer66 I'm still there, but in general, I like the concept of decentralization. It's just that the Fediverse in particular attracts some weird people that keep off of Twitter.

@js Maybe people who care about decentralization sounds a bit crazy to most people.

@js I suppose decentralization is what attracts crazy people to Fediverse. 😂

@js> Why is it that Fediverse attracts these crazy people? For the same reason it attracts all kinds of fringe/minority groups, like furries and enbys. They feel more comfortable/less persecuted in a smaller community. (The nature of instances is also particularly conducive to subcommunities.)

@chucker That makes sense, yeah. Basically, Fediverse is small, so minorities are big in the Fediverse. Makes sense.

@js that doesn't make any sense. This kind of conversations are a common occurrence on Reddit. I stopped using FOSS-minded subreddits because of this. Seeing this shit all over the fediverse is saddening...
