I was playing with SpriteKit last night and ran into this exact issue: https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/164844/turn-off-linear-filtering-of-texture-in-spritekit-custom-shader Anyone know if there's some way to fix this or know someone who might know?

@GeekAndDad @bigzaphod Yeah, I spent some time trying to SpriteKit my way out of a performance hole, turns out my original UIView-based implementation was faster once I hit a mere couple dozen sprites. Raw OpenGL would be better, but now that's deprecated. Metal is iOS/Mac-only, and all the examples are in comically-misnamed "Swift". I'm testing SDL2, and looking at Vulkan is on my to-do list. Trust nothing Apple gives you, nobody there plays games. #gamedev

@mdhughes @GeekAndDad I've also been messing around with Cocos Creator http://www.cocos2d-x.org which is sort of a Unity-like experience, but with Javascript/TypeScript. I actually really like how a lot of it feels, but the documentation is sparse and the english-speaking community seems pretty small. The core team is Chinese, so there's a huge language barrier. There's also the cocos2d-x stuff which is all C++, but I hate C++ with a burning passion.

@bigzaphod @GeekAndDad I'm wary of anything that has poor docs now, that means nobody uses it except the core devs, and they'll probably do a total rewrite when they get bored. OTOH, I love JS scripting, it pissed me off when Unity deprecated theirs for just C# shit.

@mdhughes @GeekAndDad @bigzaphod MoltenGL isn't too shabby, but the growing pains are really annoying.
