@kaniini My brain just told me that Pixelshit will never ever support federation at all.

@v0idifier @nipos well, he kinda did a bait and switch on federation for a long time. but he is starting to make it federate.

@v0idifier @kaniini The worst thing is that federation doesn't work, even after thousands of announcements that federation is nearly complete. But there are enough reasons against it and I really wish not to have such a shitty software which such an asshole dev in the fediverse :/ I wrote many Pixelshit problems in the PixelFork announcement: https://nikisoft.myblog.de/nikisoft/art/11640755/PixelFork-Image-sharing-in-a-new-way

@kaniini @v0idifier It doesn't exist yet.We decided to fork with initial federation support when the federation code gets uploaded in July (was announced back then). That hasn't happened so far.If we had known that big waiting time from the very beginning we would have done it ourselves but now when Pixelfed federation is nearly ready (at least I hope so),it doesn't make sense anymore. There are many other changes we will made but federation should be the same in both projects.

@nipos @kaniini @v0idifier What does surprise me in all of this is that you didn't help from the get-go. There is literally only one programmer working on Pixelfed, so helping hands would always be handy. And maybe federation would have happened earlier that way. After all, you are planning to use and maintain the code based on this, would have been a great practice before the fork. Also using shit as a base for your project? That's certainly not gonna go well.

@hellcp @v0idifier @kaniini With some improvements and removing some evil features,I think we can make something good out of this code base. We're currently a team of three people so we can do very much in a short time. But why help a dev who wants to get brands, businesses and influencers into the fediverse with insights and wants to create paid instances with pro subscriptions? That's against our values, against our understanding of open source and against our mission for the fediverse.PixelFork shoild be the nice alternative which learned from all the failures of Pixelfed. But it would be best for the fediverse if Pixelfed doesn't work at all.Well,we have no PixelFork then but also no commercial shit.

@kaniini @hellcp @v0idifier Of the whole PixelFork team, that means me, @jr and @fence .We are all against commercial shit in the fediverse.Freedom and the same rights for everyone,no matter how much you pay/donate.And privacy without enhanced tracking features for the companies we want to get rid of when leaving Instagram. That are the main reasons why we announced to create that fork.

@nipos @hellcp @v0idifier @jr @fence okay, fair enough, but, for example, i don't really care if there are companies here interacting with their customers.in fact, i believe that if a platform is truly free and open to all speech, then it must also be open to commercial speech too. of course, this doesn't mean shoving ads in people's faces, but definitely being a point of contact, like a help desk or something.i also don't see the problem with pixelfed's ability to queue up content and post it on a regular basis. blogging software have been doing this for several decades now and it's never been a problem.you can build a nice photo-sharing community while keeping those features, and it also makes sense for a media-oriented software to have disk quotas, so i can't say i agree with your view that there shouldn't be the ability to pay to upgrade that disk quota. such a scheme would help to raise funds to help maintain the server. no matter how you cut it, the most expensive component for hosting is almost always the disk storage.

@kaniini @hellcp @v0idifier @jr @fence I don't say that there should be no disk quota or no way to upgrade it.We voted internally for keeping thebquota but without the pro subscriptions. The admins here are nice people you can talk with.If your storage is full, you can ask your admin to give you more storage for free because you have nice content and want to show it.And if you have enough money, you can donate independently from that storage upgrade but if not you can still use it.

@nipos @hellcp @v0idifier @jr @fence sure, but offering the ability to automatically upgrade the quota isn't the worst idea. just because it's there doesn't mean you have to make use of it. maybe you don't want to pay for more quota so you ask the admin instead who gives you more quota out of the goodness of their heart.this just seems like a fork looking for a problem to solve, largely built on aggressive political ideology.historically, such forks have generally been a failure.
