While I'm wearing this eyepatch, I've noticed that if I focus my open left eye on the patch itself, I gradually develop elaborate animated hallucinations. Abstract shapes, cartoon characters running around, weird dream-like imagery. What the hell?If I take the eyepatch off of my left eye, everything returns to normal as if nothing happened.

One interesting thing I found in a search is called Charles Bonnet's Syndrome, where deteriorating eye conditions in otherwise healthy elderly people can trigger bizarre (but often pleasant) visual hallucinations.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3120245/Does the mind just make stuff up when a sensory organ isn't actively receiving input?
