hi!please participate in my survey concerning fediverse software development.it will help to influence how Pleroma and other fediverse project development is done in the future.please also consider boosting this, so more people will take the survey.https://framaforms.org/fediverse-preferences-survey-1540788767

@kaniini honestly the questions on the last page deserve a "both do this equally well" or similar optionhaving a required field to pick one or the other when I might not have a differing opinion means I'm picking a tossup

@kaniini it appears you have a typo. On the question "Privacy and prevention of non-public data leaks, including metadata, are important concerns of a fediverse project." all the options have agree and no disagree options.

@kaniini I think, you should explain that the survey is for admin who knows well pleroma and mastodon.As a mastodon admin, I can answer only half of the survey.As standard user, I can't answer at all.

@Torrone it shouldn't ask the Pleroma questions if you don't check the Pleroma box. but in the next one I do i will make the logic better for that.

@kaniini Looks biased and too Plemora-centric to me. This survey only applies to people having used both Plemora and Mastodon because it asks to compare both in almost 50% of the questions. And asks if you feel a PR would be merged on Mastodon but does not asks the same question towards Plemora PR. Or I missed it, but this survey is asymmetrical and does look biased ("the greater Plemora community"? not exact quote but saw sth like that).

@MicroJoe it only asks you about pleroma if you check the pleroma box. the questions it asks about mastodon are the same as it asks about pleroma. it only asks about mastodon vs. pleroma if you indicate familiarity with both.

@❤️ kaniini! ❤️ @Bob Mottram 🔧 ☕ ✅ The Fediverse is NOT only Pleroma and Mastodon. The last part of the survey makes no sense to the Fediverse at large. I could have given you info on most protocols and clients, except Pleroma which I have not used, and Mastodon, which I have tried and found to be ala Zap and Osada or twitterish, while the larger feature set Hubzilla and Friendica goes untold.

@kaniini Nice survey.I know all fediverse softwares from your list except two.But for some questions about my opinion for something,there should be a "I don't care" option.Especially for the instance blocking things I thought that I don't care because if I had an instance,I would never tell my users what they're allowed to see and what not.So how should I correctly fill out a question like that?I chose the middle.And for questions about user interfaces I miss other options like Halcyon or Pinafore.I think both Mastodon FE and Pleroma FE suck and if only they existed,I would have left the fediverse within my first week lol There are others which have their own advantages and it would be nice if I could select them,too.

@kaniini It would have saved me some time to have known in advance that the survey expects knowhow about operating both Pleroma and Mastodon - and their respective developer community.Also I don't want to be party in the conflict the last page is trying to create.

@galaxis the last page isn't meant to create conflict, it is meant to help us understand which is perceived as better in various areas. this helps both projects to identify weaknesses.

@kaniini I answered the survey, but since I haven't actually used pleroma, it was a bit difficult giving meaningful answers in that section. Also, the comparing of mastodon and pleroma was.. interesting, since I have plenty of opinion on mastodon, but don't want to rely on hearsay regarding pleroma.

@kaniini @nepfag Okay. Because you didn't give us a decent alternative option... it's like I've just insulted pleroma and mastodon using that option. Although it will be hard to tell them a part. ;;

@kaniini Also, I feel like this survey places more emphasis on things that don't largely concern me but are more concerns for an instance owner or for mastodon. Like the whole content filtering and content privacy for what I assume is private posts. Also muh ethics. None of this actually addresses my concerns I feel. Like I want an option for groups so that when we eventually convert over to pleroma, my groups can join me as they are and I don't lose out on anything. I want the qvitter front-end, with all its options including for moderation purposes. That would be an improvement for me because it would be like having GS/qvitter without the same bugs and taking up less space. But right now I can't say that, and I don't feel comfortable moving over. I don't know anyone who can give me that. I moved over to the fediverse partly because I didn't like the direction of twitter, partly for the company and partly because of the FE of qvitter being comfortable for me. Devs don't need to share my values but it helps the instance I'm on does, and that they don't impede on my values/privacy. I also don't view the fediverse as a place for instance-wide content filtering or private posts... I feel like there are better places if you want your posts to be private. Taking it off a public instance. We are decentralised for a reason. You already know I get triggered by the content warning shit, and it hasn't gone away.

@❤️ kaniini! ❤️ I do support your valiant effort to do a Fediverse survey, and would like to help out answering. :-) I think reusing and slightly rephrasing the questions you had for Pleroma and Mastodon into a set of common questions is doable, and I wish you the best of luck. :-)

@jalcine @kaniini the list of protocols that you have heard of and would like support for could include h-feed, rel=me, WebSub, Webmention, Micropub, Microsub - though maybe we need a pseudo standard umbrella term like OStatus. Mastodon's refusal to federate unless you implement a specific cluster of OStatus protocols is against the original spirit of OStatus.

@KevinMarks @jalcine @kaniini Kevin as a brief history lesson did it go oStatus>Activity Pub but then people felt it was too heavy and went back to drawing board and split up reading and writing into microsub and micropub respectively?
