Extraordinarily disappointed to hear about the #RedHat acquisition. They were the shining example of making a big open source business sustainable.I don't know what this is going to mean for the community...

@ehashman They'll continue to use Ubuntu Server because it actually has drivers for reasonably modern hardware?

@ehashman welp. there's no way this won't be a disaster for the ecosystem.

@drwho I actually don't know of any organization using Ubuntu on servers except some limited customers at my last job, majority have been RHEL, CentOS and Debian stable

@brennen like knowing how many upstream maintainers they employ fulltime just to work on those upstreams... ugh 😩

@ehashmanIt makes sense and frankly it could be worse.

@kavbojka agreed it makes sense but this is a pretty worse case scenario afaict. I don't suppose you're familiar with IBM's office dress code for women: skirts only, specific length below or above the knee, pantyhose with specific sheerness and colour, blouse neckline of a specific type, heels of a minimum and maximum heightIt is a horrendous place built on white male supremacy and I don't want the whole damn FOSS community steeped in *more* of that >_<

@ehashman I use #Ansible pretty heavily. It’s sort of it’s own product, but is backed by #RedHat. I’ll reserve my final judgement until I start to see what changes happen... but I’m not very optimistic that my intellectual investment in that product ecosystem will continue to pay off long-term.

@ehashman @kavbojka Also... didn’t they terminate most of their remote work agreements a while ago? Isn’t #RedHat like almost all remote? This seems like a bad culture match for an acquisition.

@nbering @ehashman Not to excuse anything about IBM but a lot of acquisitions these days are more hands off than in the past. Fingers crossed?

@nbering @ehashman oooooon the other hand, red hats ARE pretty synonymous with white supremacy these days so maybe this is a very on-brand thing to do?

@ehashman Redhat weren’t that different from Oracle’s treatment of Linux, and I don’t see IBM doing it much different. Might tilt the ecosystem a little deb-ward, and Canonical could profit some more?

@ehashman Last couple of outfits I've worked for that still had physical hardware were using it because even Scientific Linux didn't have drivers for the disk controllers. Ubuntu Server just worked.Smallest number of boxen was in the low six hundreds.

@ehashman @kavbojka apparently IBM has developed the technology to make it 1955 in their facilities

@ehashman Perhaps that dress code was at one point a thing, but it certainly isn't current policy at IBM.
