@thomasfuchs Thanks to the computer science class in 1st grade. I was lucky to be in a school with a few computers early 80s...But I got into Pascal later on too :)

@thomasfuchs while dabbling in the field beforehand, school mostly. (Went to a HTL where we did C for a year and then moved on to Java. Dropped out during the 3rd year though)

@thomasfuchs School, in the 70's, taught us Algol in maths class and took us weekly up to the local tech college to run our short, error filled programs on an Elliot 907 [?] or the ICL something or other, whatever was in use that day.

@thomasfuchs That's making the assumption that I'm good enough to call anything I've done programming, which I don't think anyone would

@thomasfuchs My grandfather gave me a copy of Usborne’s Introduction to Computer Programming. It was full of BASIC listings and airbrushed illustrations of robots, space invaders and space ships. @thomasfuchs I cut the spine off and put it in a 3-ring binder so it would lay flat in my lap while I typed.

@thomasfuchs I also started with commodore basic in C64. I could not load games anymore after the tape reader stopped working, so I copied and modified programs from some books instead. I still have the C64, it still works!

@readsteven That’s a common hack from back then! I remember I copied some books and had them spiral-bound, so much easier to use.

@thomasfuchsI know the book is flying around somewhere in the house, but I can't find it, so only a link to a retro plain HTML site: http://www.mpm-kc85.de/html/C0142_Basiclernen.htm
