gee, I really do love how like 95% of people in any sort of leftist communities online literally only know the most basic shit and that's through word of mouth. this leads to people constantly making bad arguments, being ignorant of nuanced topics, further and further watering things down through simplification as they make what they know even more basic for people to digest. nobody needs to read all of Marx and so on, but man does this get to me

@Ttle in my experience, there's nothing that can be done about it at large. which just further pushes me towards the extreme vanguardism of Bordigism, which is the thing that inspired this toot because nobody in the online left ever seems to know what Italian Left Communism is and literally just spread word of mouth mistruths. but then I also feel like an asshole elitist demanding everybody waste 4 years reading this shit like I did

@CornishRepublicanArmy @Ttle my path around being an obstinately ignorant clown re: 90% of legit leftist thought has always been to cultivate my ability to recognize people that ~aren't~ ignorant about it and listen to themsure this can be dangerous if attempted without sufficient thoughtfulness i guess, but it's still not half as fuckin dangerous as tolerating unfettered capitalism so welp

@strelok @Ttle people who are ignorant aren't exactly the best and seeing who is 'the smart ones'. anybody with enough conviction, big fancy words and tough rhetoric and convince people they know what they're talking about. honestly, education on a wide variety of leftism and leftist critiques of different strains is the only way to really get past it, which is fucking long and boring and nobody wants to do it. this leads me on to a lot of bad thinking

@CornishRepublicanArmy @Ttle right i know there's pitfalls but i kinda liken it to being critical of news sourceslike if i find a journalism outlet and i can read their reports and plainly see where the info came from, how it was obtained, that it is presented free of bias, and that the source is independent of any corporate overlords, i can arrive at a reasonable confidence in the reportsame with peer-reviewed science, no?

@CornishRepublicanArmy the only better alternative is to go do all that investigative journalism (or science if that's an easier corollary) myself, and - as you said - who has the time

@strelok @CornishRepublicanArmy i think at some point you do have to lean in on a particular bias in reporting . One that fits best with your principles.
