I know that many people already use link verification on their profiles here, but I was curious if anyone from the consuming side found it useful

@Gargron I’ve seen talk about this and still have no idea what it is or why it’s useful

@Gargron Yes it is. It would be nice if it could work with README in git repositories too.

@Gargron That's nice, and it can be useful in some cases. But how do you explain that this is "really verified", unlike the blue checkmarks that people used to put next to their name?

@Gargron I was wondering what the difference was then realised that @Tusky doesn't show anything.

@smallsees It's a new feature. But like, when it comes out it'll be a bit late for feedback :thinkhappy:

@Gargron I find it very useful, already added to my profile and to the crossposter to indicate that the account post is really from the service :)

@Gargron what do you mean by consuming side?

@nicktmro Like looking at someone's profile vs managing your own profile

@renatolond That's not the consuming side that'd be the producing side tho

@Gargron makes sense 🙃 I think the consuming side will be a little while until the feature is deployed on more servers, so far I only saw the excitement of peeps around here on masto.donte adding verified links to their profiles :)

@renatolond That's what worries me. Of course people like adding a shiny thing to their profiles. But will it be useful for anyone to look at?

@Gargron I see. I find it useful, personally. When somebody used it, I don’t have to ask myself “is this the wrong John Blah?”

@Gargron Well, I have a feeling that for "official profiles" it will be useful (as in: linking liberapay links, or service accounts, stuff like that). But it's only a feeling. What's your worry, extra complexity on the ux?

@renatolond No, I just wanna make sure there isn't more that could/should be done about it.

@Gargron From the consuming point of view I find it very useful. I have already seen the same username on several instances and wondered if any of them was a joker or the real person. With this verification it's much better. To avoid confusion with any blue checkmark you could perhaps add a little message that appears when you follow the link. "this link is verified by Mastodon see info here or continue to link"

@Gargron I've only been half paying attention to this development (I guess I was waiting for it to be completed?) Where would I find the documentation on how to do link verification?

@Gargron I find it usefull like on twitter with the blue check. Makes me more certain that I am following who i want to follow instead of an impersonater.
