A weird frustrating aspect of living in the suburbs of now is the lack of local connection and identity. If you come from a popular urban areas you can always say I'm "An X-ite" and if you live in a rural area your can call yourself "country" but the suburbs have nothing

@lyliawisteria this could just be my neighborhood but I did not know any of the people on the street even if they had lived there for like a decade

@OhMyGodMyKnees Yeah, I grew up in the suburbs. I’ve lived in cities and small towns and tiny villages since and loved them but I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be in between again. Just no. Be strong.

@SpaceForDogs @OhMyGodMyKnees the suburbs were DESIGNED for social isolation. the whole reason the concept of a "nice" town just outside the city exists is so people could isolate themselves from any race, culture, change ect that scares them and live that heteronormative dream of 2 kids and dog. They're garbage and they encourage isolation and pettiness

@SpaceForDogs @OhMyGodMyKnees this is why my partner and I have decided to move to a small town after living in the city for so long. It’s too expensive to buy a house here but neither of us want to be out in the far suburbs. It’s just soul destroying.
