@thegibson I see a lot of people using condenser mics but I do wonder whether a dynamic mic like a Shure SM58 would be better as they're hyper directional and less sensitive to quiet noises.

@TheGibson Oh cool, I did internet radio for a minute and found a battered SM58 found in a roadside free box to be easier to use, if somewhat less crisp, than my other options. It's a great vocal mic.

@TheGibson blue snowball is pretty good for usb interface, as is the Blue Yeti. I have a Blue Nessie, which apparently has a bad resonance around 300Hz.

@TheGibson So XLR. For my money, the best reasonably priced mic is the Shure SM27. I have two of them and am super impressed.

@djsundog @TheGibson tbh our good friend the wirecutter is actually the best go to for this:https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-usb-microphone/I have the shure one listed on this page, and it's a pretty microphone but you need a treated room for it to shine because it will pick up all the echo-o-o-o-o-o-o.https://marco.org/podcasting-microphones is another good resource

@TheGibson You willing to go with XLR connectors? Willing to spend gobs of money?Beyond expensive, but a Neumann U87 is a stellar voice mic. I used a version of it years ago. Amazing if you can get it. (Pretty much any other Neumann is good, and there are cheaper.)I tried an AKG last year and was quite happy with it. Forget the model though.I have not been impressed with Apex mics.Rode is okay. I've heard good things about the CAD E-100S.Sennheiser is always a good bet.

@TheGibson I have not tried any USB mics yet.Best advice: rent a mic if you can and try it out. You never know how it's going to respond to you voice until you try it.I rented a good mic last year (can't remember the brand!) and I was not impressed.

@TheGibson When I was in music production I was able to look at the ancient ribbon mic the studio had but I was not allowed to use it.I can't remember mics but even a Shure SM57 can work for voice, although it's probably more for vocals that speech.
