The first rule of SQLite's new code of conduct is "First of all, love the Lord God with your whole heart, your whole soul, and your whole strength."which is ..... uh......https://www.sqlite.org/codeofconduct.html

@tom @nightpool it is a hypocrisy. It says do not bear false witness, but it also calls itself a singular rule when it's actually 72 rules. GOTEM.

@nightpool the creator explains his decision:http://sqlite.1065341.n5.nabble.com/Regarding-CoC-td104277.html#a104336tldr: clients insist on CoC, the creator finds the current ones shitty, proposes "battle-tested" one, contributors do not mind.imho the creator looks like a reasonable man. he doesn't enforce people to fully accept the CoC, but suggests to be nice to each other (in his own way).

@nkanaev but the thing he chose to represent "being nice to each other" is actually a very disciplined code that monks spend their whole lives trying to live by. frankly, to use it in this way completely disrespects the original context as a fully voluntary life of complete obedience—something very few people are called to.

@nkanaev not to mention that requiring all participants to follow a heavily christian and specifically catholic set of rules like this one is willfully blind to the fact that christianity as a culture has historically been very instrumental in the oppression of many, many people. How do you look a trans person in the eye after making this decision, when the Pope himself thinks that trans people are on the same level of sin as those who create nuclear bombs?

@nightpool as an atheist i find this person more appealing than any other secular CoC-writers. he seems good-hearted & generous.and i love you too. even if you don't agree with my and/or his opinions. you're too a good person after all.

@nkanaev i think you should probably sit down and have a good look at what kind of bad faith you're reading into the motivations of other people writing codes of conduct.

@nightpool i don't think other people's CoCs are bad. they are good actually.and what's bad about being christian? is it bad to respect them as long as they respect you back?

@nkanaev you started this conversation by agreeing with the characterization of other CoCs as shitty and have said that the people writing them are "unappealing". i think its fair to read some accusations of bad faith into those two statements.

@nkanaev i'm not saying there's anything bad about being christian. i'm saying that by misusing these specific rules created for Benedictine monks to try and describe "just be nice to each other", he's both disrespecting the spirit and letter of these rules, and simultaneously giving a big fuck you to people who have legitimate grievances with organized christianity.
