hot take: AI wont ever have anything resembling human consciousness unless it has a similar way of "being-in-the-world" as we do

@thatcosmonaut this is also why we're going to be stuck building consciousnesses we can already map out if its at all possible, probably with neurological development like a child and everything.

what does it mean to be conscious? is your brain sitting in a vat? isnt the feeling of being hungry, or frustrated because you stubbed your toe, or your happiness when you spend time with loved ones, as essential to your consciousness as your intellect?

@thatcosmonautI won't grant them consciousness until they too are alienated from their species-being by their labor under this inhuman mode of production.

@thatcosmonaut i think that if we ever do develop AI that "thinks like a human" or whatever that means then it will be something we do long long after AI already exceeds us and it will be done as a gimmick project. it would be like making a horseless carriage that uses a robotic horse to pull it instead of its own engine. utterly unnecessary but hey we COULD make it.

@thatcosmonautIt's been known in some circles for 2500 years that:form -> sensation -> association -> discrimination -> consciousness is a cumulative process.

@thatcosmonaut this. I can't help feeling embodiment is central to awareness
