yeah so sqlite just added a code of conduct that's verbatim copied from a book written for monks in the year 500 or soi know it's all a Hilarious Joke but it's in extremely poor taste. the fact that they actually made this their CoC rather than joking about it is really shitty. here's the CoC, if you'd like to read it: https://www.sqlite.org/codeofconduct.html

@lynnesbian SQLite is not a huge project. It's mostly run by one man, Dr Richard Hipp, and I'm not surprised he found the idea of a CoC to be a waste of time.

@feld then why add one? why not just go without, rather than spitting in the faces of the people who need CoCs?

@lynnesbian Political correctness is going too far, but I'm not advocating for a ruleless society and going to scream "free speech!!". Actions have consequences and people can be held accountable for being an asshole without needing to play this game of ratifying a CoC and the baggage that typically comes with (a committee to review infractions, etc.)SQLite is basically a one man show. Dr Hipp has always been a great role model of how to run a successful project.

@kel @lynnesbian I know America's education system is terrible but I figured we could handle reading comprehension

@feld there's a standard CoC that many people are using, including the linux kerneland i don't think political correctness is going too far

@feld @lynnesbian idk if this is supposed to be a burn but I had no problem understanding your comment. You simply didn't respond whatsoever to the question "why spit in the face of people who need CoC's" and instead went on a micro-rant about political correctness. Just because you said something doesn't mean it means anything, can *your* reading comprehension understand that one?

@kel @lynnesbian We don't need CoCs to define civility. And again, SQLite has TWO active committers. You can't even get a quorum if you report an infraction to the developers for review.

@feld @lynnesbian ok but what does that have to do with the question of "why spit in the face of people who *do* need CoC's"? It's really funny that you thought I was the one with comprehension problems but you can't answer a simple question.

@kel @lynnesbian because he's making a statement about political correctness. I figured it was pretty obvious in the subtext of my responses.

@feld @lynnesbian so he's spitting in the face of people who need CoC's to make a point about his right wing boogeyman. That wasn't too hard now, was it?

@feld did he not spit in the face of people who need CoC's to make a statement about "political correctness"? That's literally what you just said.

it's so infuriating when big players like sqlite pull this shit. i feel like i don't have a voice in this because if i reply on reddit i'll be going against the fucking freeze peach hivemind and get downvoted to hellat least 4chan gives each post equal importance rather than reddit's "agree with us or be silenced" approach, jesus fucking christ

people on reddit are getting upset about itbut not because it's shitty and devalues codes of conduct as a whole, and by extension, the safety of minorities in codingthey're upset because it invokes god
