GitHub is seriously broken right now as it seems that the git data has actually gotten out of sync with GitHub's commit log and pull requests... :yikes:

@Gargron luckily the nature of git being a distributed VCS will save their asses. If they can't restore to a consistent state though, it'll make everyone's lives interesting the next few days

@Gargron Realistically, how long would it take to migrate fully to source.joinmastodon.org? Supposing that GitHub irreparably loses data, how long would it take to recover from that?

@trwnh I could push the code up instantly from my PC, what GitHub has is our workflow. Issues, PRs, projects, labels, requiring approval from trusted contributors, squash-merging to master. GitLab doesn't even have notifications so it's many times less convenient to keep up with.

@Gargron @trwnh GitLab does have notifications, though, if you're referring to email notifs . I use it all the time for GNOME work. What is GitLab missing for you?

@brainblasted @trwnh This is my most visited / most important page on GitHub. GitLab doesn't have it.

@Gargron @brainblasted ...how inconvenient would it be to transition away from gitlab to gitea/gogs https://docs.gitea.io/en-us/comparison/
