       Linus Torvalds takes a break from Linux development.Surely I am not the only one who thinks he's about to introduce his next breakthrough technology? I'll just assume he's probably gonna reinvent and fix email 😂

       @fribbledom I hope the guy retires from software development permanently, he's done enough damage

       @woomyIn all seriousness: yes, that's what he announced. But if history teaches us anything he'll come back with a new "toy" project.

       @fribbledom @woomy fun fact:Most (all?) Linus's "toy" projects are in fact very powerful tools.Tools offered by "serious bussinesses" seem like toys in comparison.

       @fribbledom well, he did do something similar to develop git.

       @Wolf480pl @woomy I wouldn't dare to disagree! There's a reason I put the word toy in quotation marks 😋

       @fribbledom he said he's taking time off to learn how to respond to people's emotions because he realized he's had his "total tool" setting set on maximum overdrive.

       @fribbledom Well. That is some news. It ought to be interesting to see how the project changes without so much “Perkele” raining down.

       @fribbledom I would assume there's a certain level of boredness and desire to do new things that comes with working on the same project for > 25 years. I would certainly get bored and want to do new things

       @fribbledom how about he reinvents a usable, "decentralized internet". Something like Freenet, but for non-technical people? (I think it's hard to find stuff in Freenet). :blobcat:

       @fribbledom Based on historical trends (N.B. there is only one other data point) of famous geniuses named Linus, he's probably going to start telling everyone to take megadoses of Vitamin C and just make everyone shake their heads at how far he's fallen.

       @fribbledom I wish someone did that, e-mail is horribly outdated and insecure and quite frankly needs to die in its current form. If someone can make transparent automatic server to server encryption that somehow ends up widely adopted it would be a big help in that.

       @fribbledom maybe he'll invent a community that is not hostile towards marginalized people
