I haven't used tumblr in a while and it seems the only groups that are really still active I was following ages ago are the indie erotic / alt porn / nsfw artists the rest of the "mainstream" internet has sort of abandoned. I would love to see someone build a solid base that encompasses being able to post stuff with full nudity and not worry about being censored. it will be interesting to see what happens with more and more services using activitypub. the cw's really dont work as a solution.

@gaeel well if I am trying to follow things that are normally cw'd I would have to click on every post. that in no way works as a solution for the people who are intending to read them. it only works for the people who dont want to see them. I have CWs disabled on Tootdon and it works alright except its a bit confusing when I am looking for something I had seen before on my phone back on my laptop.

@wakest Ah, right, so it's more about how clients deal with CW's than the inclusions of CW's in the first placeIt seemed weird to me because I feel like CW's are what allow people to post and share without worrying about harming their followers, if you boost a post that has "porn" as a CW, I know it's probably best to keep it folded if I'm near kids, but I can still browser Mastodon safely

@gaeel I love that CW's exist but making them mandatory for everyone is at most a temporary solution to a complicated problem. cc pawoo

@wakest I think having them on is a good, sane default, but yeah, it would be nice to have more control. Either by creating white/black lists to filter in or out specific keywords, but also filtering in or out usersI don't think a perfect solution exists, but a system that allows people to decide what content to see on their own terms is essential

@gaeel I was ranting mostly cause I really like the sort of community that sprang up around (mostly young artists) posting really freely (mostly visual, often with nudity) on tumblr (a community I was a part of for years) it could not exist in this space where people are concerned about things being CW'd all the time. There are tons of vile awful gross things on the internet and there are tons of beauty + magic, having a place that those things intersect can create interesting new side effects.
