       @neauoire @stephen Do you think that this'll effect systemic change? I want to be involved in local stuff, and I want to believe that it can make a difference, but sometimes I'm worried that the changes need to happen on a national or global scale and that local activism won't be enough to make a dent. I don't like having this skepticism, though, so please feel free to dispel it.

       @jrc03c @stephen Fix yourself, then fix your immediate surroundings, before thinking about fixing the outside world. But if you're interested in people doing change at the national and international level, you should look into the 80'000 hours podcast, or Givewell Foundation.

       @neauoire @stephen I agree with all of that. And 80K / EA / GiveWell have been my obsession for the last couple of months. I'm trying to find work with an EA organization right now so that I can feel like I'm making more of an impact...but haven't gotten any offers yet. :/

       @jrc03c @stephen While in NZ, I got in touch with EANZ, which put us in touch with people who bring school supplies to remotest islands, and so coral surveys, we've been involved with them ever since.Find something that intersects with the amount of time you're willing to give, and the skills that you have that can lead the most positive change.

       @neauoire @jrc03c 🍎Thanks for the info. I will look into Effective Altruism and 80k Hours. In the spirit of minimalism, I will focus on local community first. I think these things can have big impact.
