Damn, some of the keyboard buttons are still boned. I was hoping maybe it would recover by today. It wasn't that much tea. And on the very corner....

@Gargron you can fix many keyboard spills with a dishwasher, a rinse with isopropyl alcohol and thorough drying (YouTube it)

@thomasfuchs @Gargron You can also just wash it by hand in the sink like you would wash your dishes.

@tvdv @Gargron the main advantages of a dishwasher here is that it applies only very little mechanical force (just sprays of water), and it’s very even. You can use the sprayer (& very hot water) if you have one on your sink, instead of a brush.

@thomasfuchs Oh sure, it’s just that here we’re not dealing with vintage gear so a bit of force is unlikely to do much damage. It’s also how I clean my boards after soldering. :) / @Gargron

@thomasfuchs @tvdv @Gargron I realize this is a earnest tip for fixing the keyboard but I can't help but feeling like this reads like a post you'd find Reddit's /r/shittylifeprotips 😂

@analyticalarchetype @tvdv @Gargron I swear, it’s real, people do it, and it works fine. :) just don’t trust any protips that involve a microwave.

@tvdv @Gargron fair enough, tho I feel that sometimes the vintage stuff is more robust (specifically through-hole vs surface mount). I’ve had multiple 1990s pieces of hardware fail because of mechanical damage to chip pins, those are so tiny and brittle. Wonder if it has gotten better since then?

@thomasfuchs @tvdv It's not vintage. It's got backlighting

@thomasfuchs Most of the 90s counts as vintage in my book. :)

@Gargron I make keyboards, but they're kind of weird. but I could send you one for your work on masto if you would actually use it?https://atreus.technomancy.us(and I won't feel bad if you decline because they're not for everyone)

@technomancy Thank you for the very kind offer! But I got very efficient with the more traditional layout
