Okay, everyone, I'd like some advice. I currently work from home, which is great except for the fact that I can't seem to control how much I eat. I snack all day long, but I really need to lose some weight. This is a problem I've had for a long time, even when I wasn't working from home. Can anyone recommend good methods for self-control with food, especially if you're around it all the time? I really hate admitting all of this so publicly, but I also really need to get it under control.

@jrc03c Keeping fewer snack-able items, things that you can grab and go, helped me. If it requires preparation then I usually leave it be unless I’m actually hungry. It narrows what you can keep around the house but doing that along with picking up a gravity walker from a garage sale a few years back has helped me stay below 200lbs

@drisc @jrc03c you can also stock your fridge with only healthy things like carrots, celery sticks, hummus etc. I'm sure you know this already but soda is a big no-no. herbal tea isn't as satisfying but gives you a nice substitute ritual

@vaporstack @drisc @jrc03c Don't buy anything that comes packaged. That should limit the sweets and salty snacks, and leave you with healthy snacks. I doubt you'll eat enough carrots to make yourself fat.

@neauoire @vaporstack @drisc @jrc03c I second everything said before me; beside healthy eating also try to keep your daily routine in check. E.g. get enough sleep, get up from the computer from time to time. Glued to the screen all day and a whacked out wake/sleep pattern will make you give in to cravings easier. First hand experience 🤔

@jrc03c Seeds and nuts are good brain food. I keep a small bowl of almonds on my desk during the day, mostly because I snack out of habit and not because I am hungry. You could try pumpkin or sunflower seeds. If you're actually _hungry_, you need to address the nutrients to calorie ratio of your meals so you can eat enough to get full without overeating.

@jrc03c Firstly, it's actually healthier to eat little and often, so chances are it's more about what you're eating. Try to reduce your intake of sugar and carbs. Two things which I do might help you:• Don't buy snacks. Instead, try snacking on things like fresh fruit. Or maybe bake your own snacks.• Don't buy soft drinks. Except for fruit juice, I haven't actually bought soft drinks to take home for at least 5 years. Iced teas and fruit infusions are easy to make.

@InvaderXan They're more often than not, sweetened. And always packaged. :)

@neauoire Some amount of packaging is impossible to avoid in many places TBH. Fortunately, I now live somewhere which is good for recycling. Also, supermarkets around here sell fresh squeezed orange juice!

@InvaderXan It's possible that there are places like that, I haven't seen any in my travels, but I can imagine a place with fruit juices but no fruits. I would move away if I was in such a place pronto.

@InvaderXan @neauoire @InvaderXan @jrc03c Even fresh (orange) juice contains 100g of sugar per liter, so does 1kilo fresh oranges. The problem i see with the juice here is, you would not eat a whole net of oranges, while it is rather easy to 'drink it'. Stay with pure water against thirst.

@neauoire @InvaderXan @jrc03c sorry for that, but wasn't the threadstarter asking for advice? And, nothing wrong with fresh juice, for many reasons. Only, if ones changes from softdrink to juice, concerning sugar nothing is gained.

@jrc03c Limit or eliminate snacks and heat-it-up food and buy food that requires some prep. If you have to make it every time you'll be less inclined to graze all day.
