"The DUP are having none of it. Britain remaining for an indefinite period in the Customs Union is a non-starter for Tory Brexiteers. The SNP must oppose NI exceptionalism and Chequers2 doesn't meet Labour’s six tests" - Iain Macwhirterhttps://www.heraldscotland.com/news/16981788.iain-macwhirter-the-bottom-line-in-brussels-is-that-mays-hybrid-backstop-doesnt-work-for-scotland-or-the-uk/

@valerauko @simon_brooke It's a lovely place to live in terms of its nature and folk culture, but a hideous place to live in terms of its industry and governance. So, nothing's changed in 200 years

@valeraukoIt has been - past tense - a good place to live, to study, and to work. The decline into a right wing dystopia just bewilders me - I wouldn't have believed it could happen so fast. I hope that Scotland can escape, but I really worry for friends in England and Wales.

@simon_brooke @valerauko I would expect that people from India, Ireland, and elsewhere would have considered England a right wing dystopia for hundreds of years.

@simon_brooke @valerauko I agree that it was, even that it in many places has been a great place to live, but as @bamfic says below, much of its stability was always founded on the exploitation of people[s] elsewhere. Also, the foundations for the right wing dystopia were made domestically long ago, primarily in the 1980s and so, as with Trump in the US today, all that had to be done in many places was complete that work.
