A creepy day is when you realize you can write better than a lot of the people you grew up reading. Like, not consistently, and obviously not as successfully. But yes, I can outdo a lot of my heroes.

@MordecaiPinhas was quietly watching your discussion of Gaiman and thinking huh, there are many ways that he hasn't grown and that I have. That's a complicated feeling to hold.

@mardiroos Right? And like, especially Gaiman. Gaiman was about my age now when his work started taking off, the stuff we know him for. And like, looking back on it, it's, well, what i was into when I was 15? This will sound petty and stupid from a guy who's too shy to even make a zine, like, I would be embarassed to be associated with that stuff at my age. I sort of am as a reader. As an author? I'd die.

@Eweish @mardiroos Yep, there we go, that's the bunny. The dude has made a career and life out of his peter pan complex, and all I wanna make out of mine is a past. And like, maybe that doesn't make me much better than him, and certainly it doesn't make me as rich, but still.

@MordecaiPinhas @mardiroos Have you ever tried to imagine being friends with Terry Pratchett and Alan Moore and still totally failing to learn anything about writing women?

@Eweish @MordecaiPinhas ah, Pratchett. Now there's a writer who learned and grew, right up until the end.

@MordecaiPinhas @mardiroos One of my favorite stories about him is that he was at Moore's house during the writing of "From Hell" which is, obviously, very violent. Moore was relating something about what happened to the last ripper victim, and Gaiman had to go outside and vomit. Moore said something like "so much for Neil spooky boots Gaiman"
