@sir so it describes two problems: sandbox permissions of apps on flathub and updates if the apps and runtimes. Both are very valid concerns. The permissions should be easy to fix for normal apps.Reg. Updates:I think it's important to distinguish #flatpak the technology and flathub the repository for apps and runtimes.Fortunately, people more talented at running such a repository can do it. There is no lock-in to flathub. And it'd be good if someone would create alternatives.

@muelli what exactly do you think is good about flatpak the technology? Replacing the amazing Linux package installation system with basically Windows?

@sir I haven't yet taken position, have I?The problems flatpak attempts to solve are, in short, isolation and bundling. Currently, we cannot easily give or take permissions of an app. With the "portals", we have control what the app can do.Reg. bundling: It is perceived as a problem that an app developer needs to go through many different hoops to get their app on a GNU/Linux desktop. It gets worse if multiple distros are involved. Also certain apps cannot do it, esp. proprietary ones.

@sir @muelli It's something as with Wayland. Replacing the amazing Xorg system with basically Windows. And, in wayland a focused window can access the clipboard content and steal passwords. Wayland is a security nightmare.
