I run into a lot of political ignorance and lack of understanding in community and labor organizing, but for really blithering takes I have to go to upper-middle-class white men with office jobs

@shoutcacophony It's really viscerally disturbing to deal with people who are so aggressively political and yet their understanding is at 180 degrees to anything remotely resembling reality

@Decay i worked with this Bush-supporting asshole who a) would maliciously misgender in meetings b) would undermine me doing my job in other ways, which c) was created in order to educate SMEs so they'd have a shared pool of knowledge to draw from at will, rather than banging their head against the wall and not getting any answers d) he was one of the SMEs

@shoutcacophony like you'll run into working class dudes who have watched too much fox and think "socialism is when the government does things and the more government things there is the more socialister it is" but you NEVER run into such folks who have the corollary "so it's good that rich people own everything" but give a dude a tie and a salary 10% higher than the other dude and like any amount of critical thought goes right out the window

@Decay i'm sure in his mind, i was some t****y liberal destroying white jobs or some shit, because *horrors* i had cross-departmental oversight and (thankfully) zero hire/fire capability. so he could do whatever the fuck he wanted, and feel put upon at the same timebetween that and getting hit on by my boss, that was my "ok, i'm done here" moment, which was a long time coming

@Decay he was pretty well loathed. a couple of my co-workers were like (under their breath) "you *fuck*") but weren't in a position to do anything about itwhich could've been part of it -- if women SMEs were structurally validated as on the same knowledge tier than him in a closer to actual way, oh the horror
