@v6shell glad to see you're still actively working on it, I love your project (and the fact you rely on self-hosted CVS). Here's tge relevant CHANGES recap for anyone interested https://etsh.io/src/CHANGES

@sehnsucht Thanks, I really appreciate your telling me as much. Thanks for your boosts as well. It's been a learning experience since day 1. That was and still is my motivation... Meaning, if nothing else, this project was/is a vehicle for learning/improving, my C skills in the beginning, and all manner of other computing-related things too.

@v6shell then you'll be happy to hear that while on my way of learning C etsh has turned a nice sample to play and hack with. Oh, by the way, compiles with GCC8.x

@v6shell @sehnsucht So U made the Thomson sh available for x86? (Amongst other things)The %-one from before Bourne's?I have it and tried it and it tickles my metal real nice! Also QEMUed Xv6 from this uni:https://pdos.csail.mit.edu/6.828/2012/xv6.htmlYou might have heard about it.Anyway, great to finally find some like minded people as I am entering a tiny bit deeper into the world of 'classical computing'!

@neb @v6shell this Xv6 is awesome, thanks for sharing ! Yes, it's Thompson shell (rigorously not POSIX and we love it that way). Neitzel, aka v6shell, generously made it available for modern *nix compilers and C library standards. The real amusement comes when you make it you default user shell, even cooler on a modern SVR4 branch system (the easier to get is Illumos), where IMHO it feels 'more consistent'. Don't attempt making it yourvdefault system interpreter XD

@sehnsucht @v6shell Kudos to Neitzel! Way to go!So POSIX=bloat, or why shun it?I've vaguely heard of the OpenIndiana fork, but did little (<none) research into the SVR4 branch. "Mastodon's screenshots" opened my eyes to it, though! This place has been so goood to me! 8DPS: I thought I saw some news about a new AmigaOS release today, was I dreaming?.Q

@neb @v6shell regarding AmigaOS, latest version is 4.1 from 2016. There's also MorphOS, a FOSS complete rewrite-from-scratch, whose latest release is dated early 2018 IIRC

@sehnsucht @neb @v6shell @veer66 MorphOS is NOT FOSS! It’s commercial software. AROS is a free software rewrite. The latest AmigaOS is 3.1, everything after that is something weird from a different company. 3.9 is from H&P and 4.x and 3.1.4. They mostly just fucked up 3.1. I’d recommend 3.1 or MorphOS.
