Had a long discussion with a trans guy on the proper usage of grunting and scratching. Also, suspenders.Realized I should wear suspenders rather than a belt, but I refuse to surrender to the cliche.

@mwlucas Funny thing: I'm pretty sure there are trans guys who could give _me_ lessons on those subjects. But I'm not going to wear suspenders, either way. I'm just a belt person.

@eldergoth Trans folks who study scratching and grunting are true masters. They've put concentration into developing eloquence.

@meena @eldergoth Grunting is communicating verbally without words. Common for men in the US.Scratching is scratching places that shouldn't be scratched in public. Very common in middle class and below in the US.

@mwlucas @eldergoth 🤦‍♀️okaythat makes sense.i guess what threw me off, was that i assumed grunting == belts, scratching == suspenders, or vice versa, and, actually, nothing made sense.

@meena @mwlucas @eldergoth Americans make grunt noises (why????), French make the "pffft" noise. We all have our quirks.

@mwlucas You do realise how confusing the use of the “suspenders” is to British readers? Particularly in a trans context.
