@kaniini why does everything have to be a Speghetti Western cosplay? Even in the "wild west" people weren't walking around open carrying.Honestly Hollywood is probably more to blame for our gun culture than anything else

@feldthere's a couple of things to unpack here.I live in this wonderful place called Oklahoma, which is filled with people who hate marginalized people, such as myself. you probably do not notice the same things I do, which is fine, it is just a result of your upbringing and, perhaps, privilege afforded by that.Oklahoma has open-carry laws. This means the stupid redneck who gives me threatening looks (or worse yet, makes threatening comments) for the capital crime of associating with my friends, can escalate the situation into something deadly. This reality makes some marginalized people want to avoid public association, because they are afraid of becoming a victim of violence.Allies are cool, I suppose, but I don't believe most allies will take a bullet for the cause, which is why I think arming marginalized people is good.My vision isn't one of a spaghetti western, but one of a world where small-cocked over-compensating wannabe alpha male fuckboys sit down, shut up and mind their own business, because they no longer feel empowered by the open-carry laws.

@kaniini Open carry is bullshit, by the way. Even from a purely strategic point of view.

@drequivalent absolutely. it's cowboy shit.but it does not change the fact that the most ignorant in society feel empowered by the law.

@kaniini Of course, if the ignorant redneck doesn't *have* a gun, they *can't* shoot anybody.

@kaniini If anything might provide you an edge in any confrontation (whether it's a fight or a peaceful competition), and you happen to be in posession of it, it's damn well in your best interest to hide it until it's absolutely time to go.Open carry is basically a right to make a fool of yourself. So yeah, one might see that fools would feel empowered by that.

@kaniini I totally get that, but the point I'm trying to make is that more people carrying doesn't make the world safer. Tons of research to support that without thorough training and regular practice the average person is going to be useless in a shootout. In fact, they tend to be a danger to others...You have the right, no question, but it's not something I would personally support.I gave up all my guns a few years ago. There's no place for them in a city, and my dog is a better deterrent than a gun.
