AnySoftKeyboard has gesture typing now as a beta feature that you can turn on! It's terrible, but I'm excited that they're working on it and hopeful that they get it into a useable state eventually!

@kelbot So, I was thinking the other day about multi touch phones, and chorded keyboards. Do you think it would be possible for to emulate something like the microwriter's chording using a smartphone screen? I guess it would be a little uncomfortable compared to a device with buttons, but the idea is intriguing.

@ajroach42 Hmmm, that is an interesting idea. So like typing would have to be done two handed?

@kelbotOmg yes! That was the ONE thing I missed from proprietary keyboards! (I still used ASK, that didn't stop me lol, but I'm very glad that they're going that way! 😁

@kiri Same here. I was a heavy user of the gesture typing on the google keyboard/swype but stopped using them when I went without any google services on my phone. Glad ASK is getting it. I can't get ASK to correctly type any words by swiping but still happy that they're trying.

@kelbot The issue is that a phone isn’t exactly the right shape to do this. On the microwriter typing was done one handed, but the device needed to be flat on a desk or table (or lap, I guess) The way I envision it working best is essentially integrated in to a phone case as hardware buttons. But the idea of multitouch based chording is interesting to me.

@kelbot When you say "gesture typing" does that mean swiping? I'm using GBoard, I have a firewall that stops it from calling home, but I'd definitely love to support an open source swiping app.

@politicalcustard Yep, swiping. Like I said, it's not very good right now, but I'm hoping it gets better quickly.

@kelbot Nice. I did try it a couple of weeks ago but there was no swiping option, after a day of pecking I'd had enough of it! I'll give it another go. Thanks!
