I'm using a VPS right now to host some of my data but I'm questioning if this is really ok for my privacy or i should buy a NUC and self host at home.As data I have the address book and soon private emails on it.

@danyspin97 It depends on your needs, I guess: if your e-mail and contacts are top secret, self-hosting is the only option; if not, you should be safe from most risks, after all the majority of people are still using the free e-mail providers running proprietary s/w.Also, #VPS is somewhat expensive, but more reliable than a #Pi collecting dust on the floor…

@danyspin97 Hi Dany!Actually i selfhost, on a vps, nextcloud+website+email+xmpp. It's hosted in Switzerland, which should be a nation that is ok (or better) than others.Despite this, my mails are flagged as spam by tutanota and hotmail (for google and others are ok) even if i set all the dkim, spif, rdns and so on.I read that home addresses ranges are usually black/spamlisted, and if you are there probably your mails can even be discarded by the receiver server!

@silkevicious @danyspin97 Receiving emails is easy but sending them always a problem, some server have more relaxed rules but other will fail. I use a outbound smtp relay from dynu.com to send emails (9.99$ per year 200 emails/day allowed) and a server at home to receive them. I recently got one the new S912 boards with 8 cpu, 3Gb ram, USB3, gigabit eth, dual wifi (45€ shipped from HK) and run everything on it, its fully supported by mainline linux, well actually it requires kernel >4.20 .....
