https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/25/technology/facebook-instagram-whatsapp-messenger.htmlFacebook is rolling messaging between WhatsApp Instagram and Facebook messenger into one. While they claim to add end-to-end encryption (let's see about that), the silent part is about profiles, contact lists and access.Internally, the founders of WhatsApp left over this and employees are rebelling. That tells you a lot about how user-hostile these changes will be.Zuck wants more data. #DeleteWhatsApp.

@foks both are bad imo, it's just that the constant stream of bad news is outstripping our ability to react.

@szbalintLate stage capitalism in a nutshell.* Create product* Establish userbase* Find competitors* Buy competitors* Consolidate to your platform* Leverage your position and make monopoly (or monoculture)* ProfitThe endgame of any capitalist system is monopoly. Regulations can be a force of good, ensuring an even playing field and constructive competition. But now we have the problem of companies becoming so rich that they can buy regulation. Events like these provide ample evidence that the market on its own cannot solve this problem.
