people who beg for heavier curation on distribution platforms just want someone to close the gate behind them to arbitrarily stifle their competitionthe idea that you can just release a game on a platform and have it be an automatic hit has always been a delusion. let go of it, please.

it me, the guy who begs owners of distribution platforms to decide to perform curation, as if these giant companies havent done a cost benefit analysis and realized that more games on the platform means more money for them, regardless of your arbitrary standard of "quality"

imagine if a musician begged bandcamp to start curating albums so that theirs would get noticed more easily. thats how stupid you look when you beg nintendo to curate switch games more closely or whatever

also, what makes you think an arbitrary corporate bureaucratic process is going to decide that _your game_ meets whatever standards they decide to set up? you actually want to put yourself through this?

anyway it's always been hard to sell indie games, regardless of what Indie Game: The Movie wanted you to think about the glorious days of xbox live arcade or steam 10 years ago. you dont like it? blame capitalism, not some arbitrary standard of quality assurance or whatever random gatekeeping measure you think will randomly decide to make you successful

@thatcosmonaut either you hang out with more devs than consumers, or you think that a lot of the consumers you hang out with are devs, if your take on the issue of content discovery assumes that the audience has a game they're trying to sell

@larrydavis theres literally no way to fix it. begging valve to curate is asking them to do something directly counter to their profit motive. you might as well be begging jeff bezos to treat his warehouse workers better

@fool this is in response to the slew of "indiepocalypse" articles i've been seeing whining about how too many people are making games now for my special game to get noticed

@thatcosmonaut yeah i know, it sucksbut im saying i dont know why anyone would say that about nintendo because they at least have some standards, there arent just people uploading random broken asset flips constantly like on steam

@larrydavis this isn't a new problem though, people acting like this is unique to games should have a peek over at music

@thatcosmonaut my favorite part of this bullshit is watching /r/nintendoswitch alternate between "the switch doesn't get any games!" to "there's too many games!" on a weekly basis. it's like if it isn't a new breath of the wild every month, it must be shit
