hold on a second, Lynne's saying pleroma has more advanced blocking features than mastodon, when I've seen people say the exact opposite multiple times. what is the truth

@garfiald pleroma's instance blocking facility (MRF, message rewrite framework) is very powerfulthe reason people say blocking on pleroma is broken, is because it can be configured to ignore user blocks

and dont get me wrong im certainly part of the people who've made her feel that way because i've made jokes about her techposting before, and im really sorry. i didn't consider how vulnerable it can make you feel to discuss things that you're passionate about on here. i should have considered it, i know about that feeling as much as anyone, and it was inconsiderate of me

@garfiald i'm talking about MRF which allows you to modify or block posts using much more advanced rules than "hide all posts with ____ word"

@lynnesbian makes sense to me. but they dont have like effective instance blocks right? like you can still see and interact with an instance that has your instance blocked. or something like that lol

@garfiald you can do that with masto too, masto just does a better job of hiding stuff that you're not supposed to see, although it fucks up a lot (e.g., user A blocks user B. B can't see A's posts. user C boosts a post by A -- B can see that post)

@lynnesbian @garfiald If A is on instance aB on instance bC on instance cInstance C can't know user a block user b, because blocks are not federated for privacy reason. Also, if all instances need to know all instances user blocks we can kiss small instances goodbye. So this is a really hard one.

@LaH @garfiald @lynnesbian it's almost like this decentralized social network was made to censor resistant by design or something... huh. imagine that.
