@pbandkate I’ve heard some good secondhand skinwalker stories but this one happened to me. Me and some friends went on a ghost tour of an abandoned wool mill where a bunch of people had died in freak accidents. One of the ghosts was a little boy whose arm got caught in a loom. Me and a friend were walking through that room, like 5 feet apart, and I felt a tap on my back and looked over at him at the same time he looked at me. He felt the same thing but there was no one else in there

@pbandkate when I was about 10 I was hiking off trail with my dad and uncle. we came upon a clearing in the woods and noticed that there was a stone throne in it. we looked up and saw hundreds of animal bones and skulls hanging from the trees. i sat in the throne because it looked cool and i was a little dumbass. that night i had the most vivid nightmare of my entire life. i was terrified to sleep for months after that, it was awful

@lunch @natehousley @pbandkate @muppetbutler think it's a native american monster that uses other people's skin to hide among humans. kinda like a slenderman but with leatherface parts

@lunch @pbandkate @muppetbutler @realtoddhoward no they take on the appearance and powers of animals, particularly to scare away white people. It’s dark magic though

@pbandkate @muppetbutler I can’t find a definitive answer online...I’ve only heard them from white people but skinwalkers are very much a legend among the Navajo, and a friend’s Navajo ex claimed that its a real practice

@pbandkate @muppetbutler ok no disrespect intended, and I will delete if anyone objects. I'll tell the story how I heard it from the (white) guy it happened to

@pbandkate @muppetbutler he was a scoutmaster and was camping with one other guy in a car with the scouts outside in tents. They woke up in the middle of the night to someone tapping on the doors of the car. Obviously they thought it was the scouts playing a prank, so they yelled at them to go to sleep and went back to sleep. A few minutes later they heard the tapping again but popped their heads up and didn't see anyone

@pbandkate @muppetbutler they were a little uneasy now, and tried to sleep, but a few minutes later they heard a tapping all around the car, in a circle, faster than anyone could run. As soon as they looked up it stopped

@pbandkate @muppetbutler but when he looked out the front of the car, he saw a giant wolf staring at them from the woods at the edge of the clearing. It started running toward them. It jumped on the hood of the car, ran over the roof, and then jumped down the back. He looked back, and it was a man running into the woods faster than humanly possible. In the morning there were wolf prints in a circle around their car

@natehousley @pbandkate it’s weird bc I’m so removed from american culture that I only knew about skin walkers from mythology books I used to read as a kid, like I had no idea that it went further than Navajo lore if that makes sense?but I listened to a podcast about skinwalkers recently and was shocked how relevant they were and how many stories white people had
