@farhan just another open source, decentralized, activitypub/oostatus -compliant (compatible Mastodon/GNUSocial), twitter-like social network. I discovered it recently too. It is more lightweight than Mastodon, thus a 10-users Pleroma instance can be safely self-hosted on something like a Rpi3. @scarlett hosts a Pleroma instance on NetBSD.I've glimpsed a frank hostility towards Pleroma on Mastodon instances, including bsd.network; the reasons behind this are still unclear to me

@sehnsucht @farhan I am hosting an instance of Pleroma currently. The software stack is way way more saner (just elixir + postegresql). The devs are working hard to improve security and they are working on a new subset of ActivityPub called LitePub for this purpose. All the drama that went on was about the pleroma devs (and people using pleroma in general) being nazis, which it does not have any sense.Pleroma have currently 2 differents frontend (pleroma FE and mastodon FE) and is working on a third together with Pixelfed. The character limit for a post is 5000 by default (It can be changed if I remember correctly).

@danyspin97 @sehnsucht Wouldn't the 5000 character limit make it incompatible with Mastodon then?

@farhan @sehnsucht It is still compatible, the mastodon frontend supports arbitrary text messages. Many other servers on the fediverse use messages longer than 500 characters.

@danyspin97 @sehnsucht @farhan, I remember coming across the nazi/pleroma drama before and found it so incredibly stupid. It’s pretty ridiculous how quickly nazi and fascist allegations get thrown towards people, considering how well defined those concepts are.

@iiogama @danyspin97 @sehnsucht I'm not familiar with this, can you explain this to me? I wonder if its useful to have such evil forces on the Fediverse purely for the sake of the technology propagation or if its better to keep them isolated on Gab and related sites.

@danyspin97 @sehnsucht @iiogama Ahh, so there was an unjustified accusation. I see.
