I know a lot of people grumble about GOG not having a #Linux client, but one of the reasons I originally quite liked GOG was that they decided not to have one.I know there are benefits to it, but I can't help but respect a company that doesn't unquestionably do things because everyone else is.

@drequivalent Itch, Discord, Epic, Origin. Not saying that clients are bad per se, just that I don't think they should be a compulsory prerequisite for every single games vendor.

@ChrisWere - Itch is another story entirely, I would argue - Discord is not a game store so apples to oranges - Origin does not have a Linux client - Epic does not have a Linux client

@phoenix @drequivalent It's not specifically a Linux thing. I just liked that particular aspect of GOG before they decided to go down another route.

@ChrisWere If GOG "did things differently" in that they were against the whole idea of clients, they wouldn't have one for Windows as well. This demonstrates that this is very much a Linux thing after all. They claim that they support Linux gaming, but they are not putting their money where their mouth is."Talk is cheap, show me the code" still applies.@phoenix

@drequivalent @phoenix @ChrisWere I'm pretty sure it's more that the kind of player that would care about having a client would not be a Linux userIt was made to make it more attractive to people who find file management scary for some reason

@Majkatsu Well, I'm a Linux user and I care about game stores, GOG in particular, having a Linux client. Why? Because clients are convenient. Because in the end if the day, as a user, I don't wanna be wasting time managing files, I want to be (wasting time :) playing games.Because I want linux to be more popular, and I want Windows (and Mac) less popular.Because gaming is a large chunk of what holds people on Windows. If you tell people that they should be managing files instead of conveniently installing the games they purchased in one click like they are pretty much used to, they would tell you to fuck off, rightfully so.And those Linux elitists, who think that Linux and Free Software becoming the platform #1 in the world will somehow pop their bubble where they are so smart and special and better than the rest, they can fuck right off.@phoenix @ChrisWere

@drequivalent @ChrisWere @phoenix I mean I agree with you, I think they should have made a Linux client too... Just from a company perspective, which is usually demographics (and not 100% accurate), I think it would make more sense to focus the development of a Windows client instead in that kind of mindset

@drequivalent @ChrisWere @phoenix I'm less trying to defend it and more trying to say where they might have been coming from, that's all

@Majkatsu Well of course they are going where the money is.But then again: if you oh so support Linux gaming, and hate DRM, and everything, do something about it!Valve did (Steam for Linux). And they did it again (Proton, open-source for everyone to use).If companies already have started porting some of their complex, huge million-dollar game projects to Linux, GOG (which is a CD Projekt joint ffs) sure is able to afford to cash out and port their cute little launcher to Linux. They already have a Mac version, and Mac's gaming is already deader than disco, so what the hell?@ChrisWere @phoenix
