I've just logged into my Pixelfed account for the first time in months.I'm not sure we are made for each other.

@fitheach I’m not sure I get it either. I was going to host an instance but I can’t see me using it.

@jamie As I understand it Pixelfed models itself on Instagram. The problem is I'm not familiar with Instagram.Pixelfed's image handling seems a bit rudimentary. E.g. images seem to be limited to ~620px width with no modal.Equally, comment handling is rudimentary. E.g. pressing enter submits the comment not a linefeed.Maybe Instagram is like that, I dunno.I suspect what I was looking for was something more like Flickr, but with AP comments.

@fitheach @jamie You might like piwigo https://piwigo.orgI host an instance a friend uses enough for me to keep it up. Seems nice. Like you, I don't really have a need.

@fitheach Same here. I have since learned that I am not that much into photos without context. I prefer a toot 'story' and then have pictures included. I have never felt the need to use Instagram and I am still not sure about Pixelfed and I. (Plus I always wonder who would be interested in my photos and is it that important to me to present myself in yet another network. I guess time will tell)

@gemlog I've come across Piwigo before, I think. Looks very nice. The only thing missing is ActivityPub.I'd like something that handles photos nicely, allows commenting between users and allows following (both directions) from other AP clients like Mastodon.@jamie

@inAktion Agreed.Photos can be enjoyed on their own. However, sometimes (often?) I want to add some context, or, as you say, the Toot story. Pixelfed only allows a very small space next to the photo for description AND comments. The comment entry box is miniscule.I find the display by Mastodon using the Media link is better than Pixelfed, for both comments and images.
