like, seriously, i've never met a single smart person that referred to themselves as a "software engineer." they always refer to themselves as basically anything else.

@kaniini it's a term i avoid but is my formal title at work... very few people with the title are qualified to consider themselves engineers, or even developers for some...

@shaderphantom exactly! i didn't say they didn't have the title, but i've never seen anyone i thought i could learn things from refer to themselves by their title. or they would do so begrudgingly, and make it clear that "they're not with those other guys."

@kaniini I see the term used a lot where I work. Generally I only see it attached to people who plan how the software should be built. Also a lot of them tend to be asm autists, so they deserve the title. That shit is hard.

@sean i want to reiterate: it was a known issue that you could take a dead celebrity's SSN and pass age verification before the functionality went live.

@kaniini I agree, and would also be wary of people labeling themselves as a "rockstar" or "ninja" too and god i'm gagging just typing those terms

@hoppet i keep telling people not to endear tech bros, because they pretty much always blow your fucking projects to hell since they take the same asshole lack of social skills attitude and apply it to their work

@shatteredgears i mean, as long as you're out there kicking ass and tacking names, title doesn't matter in my opinion
