Oh boy.. After continuing to research email providers I still can't decide on one. I'm going to try hosting my own on my home server. While I like developing software and a lot of Sysadmin stuff, this is not a project I'm looking forward to, but I feel I should do.Or maybe I'm a masochist. Who knows?

@nebunez I tend to use Fastmail and Lavabit.Fastmail isn't anything special privacy-wise (and they're Australian, so that's a threat), but as far as I can tell they don't have an incentive to harm your privacy. And they are very good about implementing all the standards.Lavabit has some high ambitions in that they want to transition the server-to-server email protocols to support end-to-end encryption, but I haven't noticed any difference from them yet.

@nebunez If you want to host using opensmtpd, here are the ansible scripts I use (warning, they use the openbsd 6.3 format. openbsd 6.4 has a new opensmtpd config format): https://github.com/sumdog/bee2/tree/master/ansible/roles/openbsd-emailI'm glad I run my own e-mail server, but I do realize the limitations. You are going to have trouble sending e-mail to anyone on Google/Microsoft:https://penguindreams.org/blog/how-google-and-microsoft-made-email-unreliable/It's a trade-off I have come to live with in exchange for the control I get.

@nebunezThere must exist out there a one-click-solution for those who want to run an email server, right?I'll admit that the setup that I am using is not a simple one to implement, and stuff like DKIM and spam detection is not easy for a newcomer to immediately configure.

@alcinnz @nebunez i have been very happy with fastmail as a provider (and i just use a desktop client, so in practice i'm just paying for them to be a standard mailserver and route things to some aliases), but remembering that they're australian suddenly has me thinking about bailing.
