Last night, staff of my graduate alma mater UNC-CH, acting on the chancellor's orders, took down the stump of that racist lost cause statue on campus. The chancellor announced her intended resignation. The Board of Governors hissed. I'm told students and faculty plan to dance on the site later this week. Let us dance with them, honoring all those who fought and suffered to see this day. Let us stand in solidarity with them as the backlash gathers.

And now in the state (Alabama) where I live:"Judge voids Alabama law protecting Confederate monuments. A ruling issued late Monday by Jefferson County Circuit Judge Michael Graffeo says a 2017 state law barring the removal or alteration of historical monuments violates the free speech rights of local communities."There's a lot of chatter on birdsite about this, and about the judge's argument.https://abc3340.com/news/local/judge-voids-alabama-law-protecting-confederate-monuments
